About Department of Assamese

 

Mission:

The department of Assamese of Uttar Barpeta College has been functioning since the inspection of the college in 1991. Assamese literature has a glorious history from 14th century. Assamese language is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the North-East Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language and it service as a langua franca of the wider region. Assamese literature as a discipline caters to the inculcative values and qualities of higher education even as it enriches communicative skills and thereby grooms the holistic development of the youth. Learning of Assamese literature thus contributes reachly to community living and out-standing performance in the field of learning.

The department of Assamese is mainly interested in providing quality education for personality development and command of language skills along with the acquisition of knowledge of the subject of Assamese literature. It offers need-best programmes providing in an academic environment of quality higher education. The students from rural areas and minority areas are trained to acquire Assamese communicative skills along with the knowledge of varied social and national values obtain from the study of literatures written in Assamese.
